Ntabamoya Private Resereve

There are presently three 3 year old giraffes in the reserve and they are expected to have offspring in 2007/8

The site of Ntabamoya Private Reserve was chosen for its location, natural beauty, established vegetation and abundant water supply.

The vegetation provides food and cover which makes this an attractive environment for wildlife.

The resort is being stocked with a number of different species of antelope and other game. Over 350 animals have already been introduced and these include Giraffe, Waterbuck, Kudu, Impala, Blesbok, Common Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck and Grey Duiker. Stocking will continue during the game relocation season.

The species being introduced have been specially selected by KZN Wildlife to provide a balanced and complementary feeding so that grass, shrub and tree populations remain balanced and sustainable in the long term.

There are many species of small mammals such as aardvark (ant-eater), porcupine, leguaan (water monitor), turtles, other reptiles, rodents and insects.

The Secretarybird regularly visits the reserve

There is also an abundance of birdlife with over 100 species already identified in the reserve, amongst them Brownhooded, Malachite and Pied Kingfisher, Secretarybird, Crowned Crane, and Cape Eagle Owl. The availability of water in the reserve attracts a wide variety of migratory birds.

The dams are presently stocked with black bass that provide good coarse fishing and angling. A further dam is being constructed to provide licensed fly fishing or additional coarse fishing facilities. To find our more about coarse fishing visit the Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling web site.

We already have many resident animals at Ntabamoya and numerous birds identified at Ntabamoya. These lists are updated as new species are introduced or identified.
